Homework packets will be sent home each week in their Friday folders. The students are asked to study their spelling words at least three times during the week and to record the way that they chose to study. I understand that each child learns differently, and I am not as concerned with how they learn their spelling words as I am with them applying the skills they have learned to help them study. Your child will always have access to a copy of their homework if they lose their original copy. It is available under the spelling contract tab here under homework.
They are also asked to read independently or with an adult at least five nights a week for at least fifteen minutes. Please make sure your child is reading a "good fit book" that isn't too hard or too easy. There are many suggestions for parents under Curriculum and Cafe. Please record how many minutes your child reads each night on the reading log that is included in their homework packet.
They are also expected to practice math for at least five minutes four nights a week. This is imperative to help them keep up on necessary math skills. I would prefer that you focus on your child's individual math needs. They have many options. They can take a math timed test, they can practice counting money, telling time, flashcards, Everyday Math on the computer, a computer game, review for a test, etc. You know how your child learns best, so again, be creative and have fun with it.
